....put on the new nature, created after
the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. Eph.
4:24
President Joyce Schroeder presided over
a group of half frozen members. The attendance was better than
expected, with the temperature this morning of about 7 degrees
below zero. Some of the snow birds have already left for the
south and warmer climate. Just us Northerners along with a few
robins are still around.
The meeting opened with the song, pledge
and prayer. President Joyce, still wearing that over size necklace
Lou got her for Christmas. I'm sorry that is a neck brace and
was not from Lou. Anyway guest Kristen White was proudly introduced
by her father Tom. Ron Forte a new member, was introduced as
our new member. This title stays with you until another new member
is inducted.
Sick call looks bad, Father Putnick suffered
a massive heart attack last week and is still in intensive care.
A former member Richard (Dick) Bachman suffered a fatal heart
attack on December 31. Dick was a florist in those days and was
an important player in the old Rose Day fund raiser. Please remember
them in you prayers. Also it was reported Dan Kipp made the sick
list, he caught a cold.
Be sure to come to the meeting next Tuesday.
"It's Party Time". Tina McGary and Tom Reuter are celebrating
their birthdays at this meeting. A special entree has been ordered
and there SHOULD be plenty of ice cream and cake. That is if
Kahny gets this bulletin out in time. Gifts are welcome!
A couple of reminders: 1. the Directors
Business meeting is Wednesday January 13, 1999 eight o'clock
at West Park. 2. Elections will be here soon and candidates are
required. If you want more clout in the operations of the Club,
then put your name in the hat. Just tell any past president you
are interested in running.
Although the meeting was short, the only
song we sang was the old faithful "Smile". Maybe it
was because Tommy White did not pass out the song books or maybe
it was because Cliff Franklin....no it couldn't be that.
Attention Vel Newsome! Steve won split
the pot for $25,000.00 or something like that. I know it had
a 25 in it somewhere.
VP Frank St. Charles introduced our speaker
L. John Hartman a Long Term Care Specialist. John is associated
with LTPC, sounds like a computer company. John explained why
we need to be looking at long term care costs. You have car
insurance, home and medical insurance to prevent financial disaster.
You also need insurance on long term nursing care. This care
can easily cost around $45,000 per year. The program was very
interesting and very informative. John suggested you read Suze
Orman's book, "You've Earned It, Don't Lose It" (paperback
$15 or less)
Ready to pitch those Christmas cards? Don't!
Just bring them to Kiwanis Tuesday. They are used by school
children for art projects. Tom Reuter will see they are delivered
to the schools.
May everyone have a very happy and prosperous
new year.
