PRICE HILL / WESTERN HILLS KIWANIS BULLETIN - February 16, 1999

Spring is in the air. And the smell of roses is all around us, or should I say the smell of the Rose Bloom Boom. More on that later.

Our meeting opened with the invocation by Jim Cupito. Jim was back looking and he says feeling good. Jim had a cancerous brain tumor, less the then a half inch big, 95% removed. The remaining tumor will be treated with a experimental drug, hoping to put the cancer into remission. After several months, Jim will be treated with the traditional chemotherapy. Jim is still sleeping and eating fine, which is good news for all the restaurants in the Western Hills area. Also, Jim thanks everyone for the thoughts and prayers.

Another member of the Kiwanis family sick list is the wife of Howard Zoellner Roseanne was bumped while walking down the steps at the Cincinnati Gardens while attending a Xavier University basketball game. She suffered a broken foot and ankle.

Now on to some happier news. We had two guests present today. Dave Ruther of Provident Bank, and Jack Mcguier. Also present today was our new member, George Clapper

Tom White passed out a flyer for the Sounds of Hope concert which will be Sunday, March 14th from 7:00-9:00 PM at Music Hall.

A reminder to everyone, the Lenten services will be held again this year on every Wednesday morning in March at Twin Towers (we think?). Our club will be the host club On March 17th. Tom White will be playing special music on this day. If we have 4 members present you can get credit for an interclub meeting. breakfast starts at 7:15 With hymn and prayer at about 7:5O am.

We had several Glad Hand prize winners, far to many to mention here, well maybe I could have mentioned them if I was able to write a little faster. What I do know is our guest Dave Ruther won the split-the-pot We also sang happy Birthday to Tim Hornsby, and sang When the Saints Go Marching In and Smile.

The Rose Bloom Boom was the program for today. Robert Rinear gave us all a little history of the event. Russ Puckett talked about the Corporate Sponsors we will attempt to sell to benefit the event. The goal this year is to sell22 sponsors.

Also different this year is the reverse drawing will undergo some changes. Their will be 3 major awards which you do not need to be present to win. 1st prize will be $5,000.00 and the 2nd and 3rd prize has yet to be determined. Also their will be several $25.00 winners pulled throughout the night, these winners will be put back into the pot for a chance to win the major award.

The Big Event will be May 14th at the Farm. Early bird drawing will be May 1st Get your reservations in by May 6th. Include the tear sheet with ticket order, this is very important this year. Any questions call Jane Reuter

Till next time... Kevin Kahny

PS. Tuesday, we will hold a "Name the pig?? contest. Write your name on a slip of paper and bring it to the meeting. Valuable prize to the winning name!
