PRICE HILL / WESTERN HILLS KIWANIS BULLETIN - February 23, 1999

"EXTOL THE LORD OUR GOD; WORSHIP AT HIS FOOTSTOOL! HOLY IS HE! PSALM 99:5

A not entirely healthful Pres. Joyce introduced Charlene Bosken who presented a message for the second week of Lent. Charlene said we needed the proper 'direction' to observe the season and quoted parts of the "Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi" as a guide for our 'direction'. Short but very effective!

"Sick Call" was well attended; Carol Sohmer reported that Dick Mather has missed his Germany trip and is spending time at room 573, St. Francis West Campus trying to get his back problem corrected; Tina and her daughter are both having medical problems that were not completely explained; No report was made on the condition of Roseanne Zoellner's leg and foot fracture, but we hope she is OK.

Terry Eisner was introduced by Karen Kahny as her guest.

BIG MEETING at Jane Reuter's home Wednesday evening at which much R.B.B. business was to be promoted; Corporate Sponsors; Pick Up and Distribute Flyers; Name the Pig; Community Press (all 3 locals) ads; H.A. Musser explained the ads (3 x 5s) worth about $50.00 plus R.B.B. Ticket plus on site promotion ~ $25.00 corporate sponsorship of "door prizes". Bob Rinear announced that he has R.B.B. tickets on hand.

Jack Kahny, with other Kiwanians, is chairman of a "Golf Outing" that will be a "traveling affair" at different courses in the region. Much more to be explained, sites, costs, dates etc.

Larry Clements of the Attorney General's Office of State of Ohio, a Norwood Kiwanian, spoke as an "enforcer" of the Consumers Sales Practice Act. He alerted us to a few scams which are victimizing mostly seniors, particularly phone scams plus "Slamming" (illegally switching long distance services) and "Cramming". Good program!

A special observation - For many years we observed a courtesy to our speakers in which persons who could not (for valid reasons) stay at the program, would approach the front table and make an apology, explaining his/her early departure! Now almost no one does this. My suggestion is that those people who have to leave early would consume their meals at a spot remote from the speaker and depart unobtrusively through the rear door and not the side door. Inconvenient? Yes!, but considerate of our speaker who is our guest. You would observe this minor courtesy at home!! I hope!
