PRICE HILL / WESTERN HILLS KIWANIS BULLETIN - February 15, 2000

"For you, O Lord, have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before the Lord in the land of the living." - Psalm 116:8,9

Appropriate and beautiful rendition of "Amazing Grace" by Tommy White on the keyboard...

Our dear friend Jim Cupito, with the great sense of humor, gentle manner, and hardworking team-spirit, was promoted to glory at 8:05 PM on Sunday evening (Feb. 13th), surrounded by his family and great friends Bob and Carole Rinear. The viewing will be Friday, Feb 18, at the Miller-Simminger Funeral Home on 3330 Parkcrest in Westwood (661-6820). At 7:00 PM the Kiwanis club will gather for a special meeting in honor of Jim. The mass is on the following Saturday morning at 10:30 AM at the St. Teresa of Avila Church, 1175 Overlook in Price Hill. (Bob R. has asked for prayer as he will be delivering the eulogy.) After the mass, club members are invited to the Knights of Columbus Hall, 3621 Glenmore, for food and fellowship.

Let's also keep those prayers risin' for...

Cliff Franklin, who is home, but will be back in the hospital in about a week for more surgery.

Father Jim Willig.

Greg Hartlaub, who is facing an upcoming hernia surgery.

GOOD NEWS: Dick Mather is in Florida, with a driver's license!!! I'll bet he's not keeping it in a frame on the mantle. As Prez Tony said, we can "scratch him from the sick list!"

Gene Simpkins is doing better!

Dan Kipp feels better, especially since he got off the cholesterol medicine "Lipitor." (That must be some medicine...)

Guests included Sandy Flick's father Carl Leicht and Officer Greg Kittel.

Officer Kittel reported that crime is down, partly due to the cold weather (and partly due to the work of the district #3 police officers, but he didn't say that). Maybe someone should make him a member - he even comes to more meetings than Guy Langenbrunner!

EVENTS: On Friday, Feb 25, at noon, there will be a luncheon at Ron's Roost. Steve Newsome will be there to discuss the Foundation.

On Friday, March 10, there will be a "1999/2000 Rose Bloom Boom Recognition and Kickoff Dinner." No charge - even for one guest! Please RSVP Jane Reuter!

On Tuesday, Feb 22, at 7:30 PM, there will be a Past President's Meeting at Lou and Joyce Schroeder's home. Elections will be discussed.

Joyce Schroeder gets to celebrate another year of keeping her hubby in line, and Lou can also celebrate their anniversary, which is tomorrow. One of our songs was chosen in honor of the occasion, and the club was offered the rare treat of seeing Tom R. and Walt L. sing "Let Me Call You Sweetheart!" And they even got their picture took (Tom and Walt, that is...)!

Paul Hogue was absolutely blown away by a record SIX CLAPS for his introduction! Paul announced that the speaker next week will be Bruce Flory, son of Paul, of ATP tennis-tournament fame. Paul also recommended obtaining Red's tickets for the RBB silent auction before he introduced today's guest...

Dale Benedict is a painter and poet, who was recommended by Ed and Sandy.

Dale worked in a dental lab, making crowns and bridgework, for 28 years. While the castings were cooking, he painted and painted... He finally decided, 14 years ago, to take a risk, quit his safe job, and paint full time. He showed us three paintings, which looked like photographs from where I was sitting. After a high school education, Dale served for 4 years in the service, and studied dental technology. By the way, he says that Wally Flender is an artist in his own right!

These paintings on canvas go to a lithographer, who makes a transparent photo. The transparency is used to make a print using yellow, red, blue and black dots. Ron even has some of his work at the Roost!

Dale challenged us to REALLY SEE the world as God-created landscapes.
