"...Lo, I am with you always, even
unto the end of the world. Amen" - Matthew 28:20
Today's Lenten Devotional was given by
Scott Harvey.
Guests - Brian Sweeney, Jim Schwartz
(Schwartz Jewelers), and Mary George Becker (Mrs. Gary).
Bob Rinear has Rose Bloom Boom tickets.
The club was exhorted to keep prayin'
for Jim Willig!
Sadly, Tony Proffit was absent, due
to a death in the family. Kiwanians were also asked to pray
for Tony's 29-year-old brother, who just had a brain tumor removed.
Tom Reuter was at the Cleveland Clinic
today, just for a checkup.
Joyce S. was the happy recipient of
a gift for the RBB Silent Auction (she's in charge of that).
Bill Bigner offered the splendid suggestion
of using one's "Christmas Card List" when sending RBB
ticket info.
Dan Finke has RBB corporate mailers,
and mailers for the Silent Auction. We now have 2 corporate
sponsors already. Keep sellin' those tickets!!! (We need 35/week
to reach our goal.)
Joyce won "Split the Pot!"
(Hey Poul, do you think Lou can persuade Joyce to play "Split
the Split the Pot"?)
It's Bill Stautberg's and Lou Schroeder's
birthday! SMILE!
2nd VP Paul Hogue gave us the schedule
of future guests:
March 28 - Howard Wilkinson
April 4 - (Election Kampaign Kickoff)
April 11 - Buddy La Rosa
That sensitive guy, the Video Elf,
gave me a business card for our guest (courtesy of Bigner),
Pat Streicher, R.D., the Dietitian Manager of the Cholesterol
Center at The Jewish Hospital. Someone near me asked about our
guest, and I was able to just show her the card - so professional...
Pat also co-writes a nutrition column
for the Enquirer. She packed 2 hours of info into half-an-hour,
which helped Dr. Frantic Frank to scribble-off lunch calories.
Her speech was entitled, "If it Tastes Good, Spit It Out."
We learned that wallpaper paste is
better than Fat Free Mayonnaise, and that if Taco Bell or Arby's
have a 'lite' something, that means it just weighs less!
"Thumbs Up": 1% milk, olive
oil, canola oil, Breyers Fat Free ice cream, shopping at the
PERIMETER of the food store, "lite" mayo for salads,
regular mayo for sandwiches, Subway's low-fat sandwiches, and
baked potato chips.
"Thumbs Down": too much fat
(especially animal fat), most fast food (except "the best,"
Wendy's, and especially their chili), fat free salad dressing,
low-fat whatever (because they tend to compensate by raising
the salt, sugar, etc.), the Adkins diet (or most any "fad"
diet).
It's best not to serve Olean or Olestra
products to children, because some of us suffer from DIRE consequences
after eating these potato chips...
The cereal on the market with the highest
sugar content? Post Raisin Bran! One wonders why more kids
don't like it...
After the meeting, Dr. Frank asked
Pat about the recent study which seemed to show that drinking
wine in moderation can reduce the risk of heart disease. Is
it the grape juice or the alcohol? (A burning question for me,
since Salvationists aren't allowed to drink alcohol.) Guess
what - the good stuff is in the grape juice! For those of you
who are eager to test this theory, Pat warns that it is best
to drink grape juice in small quantities...
In order to stay thin - one can be
like Tommy White (one of the 33% who can eat "anything they
want"), or take Dr. Frank's advice and go to bed with a
growling stomach.
It's been fun writing bulletins for
the wonderful Price Hill/Western Hills Kiwanis! God bless you,
and I'll see you at the Lenten Breakfast on April 12th!
