Rejoice in every good thing which the
Lord thy God hath given unto thee. Deut. 26:11
President Tony Proffitt is back. Thankfully,
he reported everything is OK.
The Lenten message and invocation by HA
Musser recalled the Bible story of St. Peter denying he knew
Christ, three times before the night ended. In our lives we also
deny Christ. The good news is Peter rejoined with Christ and
so can we.
Charlene Bosken introduced her guest Nancy
Ziegler and Gary Becker introduced Jim Schwartz. Both guest hope
to become members.
Dan Kipp has returned from sunny California.
While there Dan attends meetings with the Amador County Club.
I received a note from their secretary verifying Dan's attendance
and warning of his return.
Our condolences go to Saul Marmer and family
in the recent death of Saul's wife Phyllis. Saul was a very active
member until business interfered with his attendance. Bill Stautberg
told a brief history of Saul's contribution to our Club.
Ed Willig reported his son, Father Jim,
is holding his own. Fr. Jim's "Inspiration Line" was
discontinued because of his health. The parishioners put many
of the "Inspirations" into a book which Ed past to
the membership.
Every five years we have a Memorial Service
for our deceased members. Bill Stautberg announced the service
will be at St. Simon Church on May 1 at 7 PM. There will be a
social program after the service with refreshments.
In recognition of the excitement surrounding
the Reds we sang "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" and
concluded with "Smile".
Today is "Elections Kick Off".
Past President Joyce Schroeder introduced the chairpersons, Don
Blum of the Blue Ticket and Gary Becker for the Gold Ticket.
Don introduced the Blue candidates, Dan
Finke, Jane Reuter, Ed Willig and Paul Klatte. Don being a nice
guy said nice things. Tom Reuter, subbing for Walt Luthy, gave
some background about Jane. Ed Flick speaking on behalf of Dan
Finke, promised us voters, Dan will not play golf on Kiwanis
days.
Gary introduced the Gold candidates, Carol
Sohmer, Ron Forte, John Nordmeyer and Scott Becker. Gary gave
a short history of our election skits where the motto can be
"take no prisoners". In contrast to Don Blum, Gary
warned the opposition to beware, as nothing is sacred.
A word of caution. The river can also be
very treacherous!
Lou Schroeder told of the many and often
unknown activities and qualities of Carol Sohmer.
