And from His fullness have we all received,
grace upon grace ... grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
John 1: 16,17
President Tony Proffitt called the meeting
to order. It was obvious its election time. The meeting room
was full of gold & blue paraphernalia. Blue place mats, stickers,
gold wrapped candy and signs around the walls. A fun time to
be a Price Hill Kiwanis member, UNTIL THE BOMB WAS DROPPED.
This reporter, a Kiwanis member for over
30 years, was shocked and saddened by the announcement by Dick
Bucher that he was leaving the club. "He's going home to
mom" as Dick so well stated. Leaving our club and joining
the Cheviot/Westwood Club. We were sponsored many, many years
ago by Cheviot/Westwood Club and Dick will become a member of
that club.
It may be to late for a change of heart
but I personally will miss Dick and his unending contributions
to the club. God bless you Dick and I wish you many more years
of service to the community through Kiwanis.
Continuing on, as best I can, with everything
else that went on at a very busy meeting. The invocation was
by Gene Simpkins and Gene presented Gary Becker as "Egg
of the Week" for all his work, mainly as Santa at Oyler,
etc. Also Gene is inaugurating a new egg barrel booth for Rose
Bloom Boom to guess the number of eggs in a barrel. More on that
later.
Charlene Basken introduced guest Ronda
Huber who will be interviewed as a potential new member. Howard
Zoellner gave a plug for the Sixth Division Golf Outing at Hidden
Valley Golf Club. Get your group together and join Howard and
the others on May 22, 2000 for a great Golf Outing.
Scott Becker, a gold ticket candidate,
made a plea for more corporate sponsors for the Rose Bloom Boom.
Try to support Scott on this very important part of our fund
raiser.
Old man Becker pleaded for pre-sale of
tickets on the Golf Booth. For $10.00 you can spend a week in
a beautiful condo at Hilton Head, a set of clubs, balls, etc.
if your name is pulled. So sell, sell, sell these tickets. You
don't need to be present to win this prize.
Bob Rinear mentioned the "lunch bunch"
tickets. For $10.00 you become a part of a ticket on the grand
prize drawing. Get on several different lunch bunch tickets and
increase your chances to be a winner. Also get your money in
on the main ticket.
Joyce & Lou Schroeder - co-chairpersons
of the silent auction, pleased for more items, especially large
items for the silent auction. Lou also started the mystery "money
box" to be filled with money for bidding at the silent auction.
Dan Kipp once again explained the "Mother Load" ticket
that he does such a great job on and encouraged anyone so inclined
to purchase one of his "Mother Load" tickets. Also
he mentioned a possible trade with a Calif club. $14.00 and we
are rid of Dan to the Calif. Club, or something to that effect.
I really did not fully understand all the particulars.
Glad hand prizes were given to Howard Zoellner,
Sandy Flick, Earl Ostertag, Joe Fettig, Lou Schroeder & Bob
"who's he" Plagge. Split the Pot was won by Bill Stautberg.
Happy birthdays were sung to: Tom Brown,
Dan Finke, Judy Jennison, Russ Puckett, Joe Schrage and Harry
Maly. Dick Bucher led us in this as well as Summer Time and Smile.
After all this, a little time was left
for campaining by the Blue & Gold tickets.
