Our Meeting started with the traditional
song and pledge, with the Poul LaMasters giving the invocation.
Pres. Tony Proffitt read thank you's from
the Pregnancy Center West, and the Women's Connection. The Women's
Connection with our support meet their goal of $10,000.00.
We also received a letter from the Argosy
Casino, who donated two very nice items for our Rose Bloom Boom
Silent Auction, asking for volunteers to help clean up the river
banks on Saturday, June 17th. . It would be nice to have someone
from the club to help out to show our gratitude towards them
helping us.
Ron Forte gave a word of thanks to all
the veterans in the club for their support of our great nation.
I second the notion here. Often Memorial Day holiday is overlooked
for what it really stands for. Again, thanks to all those members
who have served in the armed forces.
Gene Simpkins gave the weekly "Good
Egg Award" to Edgar Willig for his continued strength and
courage with dealing with the illness of his son Fr. Jim. We
all expect a report next week on the answer to the question;
are the brown eggs better then the white ones?
Well we finally got around to inducting
our new members. We got three new members added to our club.
Jim Schwartz is a former member who
has left and as all good men do, returned home. Ed Flick sponsored
Jim
Chuck Cole Chuck comes to us from
the 5/3 Bank Overlook branch. Gary Becker sponsored Chuck.
Wess Reynolds Wess is also from the
5/3 Bank Overlook branch. Wess has already been a great help
to the club. Wess sold a corporate sponsor add for the RBB and
sold several tickets. John Nordmeyer sponsored Wess.
Thanks also to Rob Rinear for the introductions
of the new members and reminding us all why it is and what we
do as members of the Kiwanis Club.
There will be a brief meeting of the Young
Children's Priority One Committee next Tuesday, June 6th after
our regular meeting. If you are a member please attend, if you
are not a member, you can come also.
Happy B-Day to the Kahny's, Jack (5/31)
and Karen (6/2). Glad hands went out to several members, far
to many to mention, but I think our new 5/3 members received
PNC mugs. Welcome to the club! Earl won split the pot for the
first time.
The ever-cheerful Edgar along with Tom
White on the piano led us in singing of Grand OLE Flag
and Smile.
Paul Hogue introduced our speaker Clyde
Gray of Channel 9.
See you next week,
- Kevin
"Also from Miss Manners (who was
a poet and didn't know it), Technology is great, We are all up-to-date.
But remember we still need our manners to heed. So during our
honored weekly speaker, remember to turn off that phone and noise
beeper. Switch to vibrator or blinking light. And keep our meetings
respectful and right"
