PRICE HILL / WESTERN HILLS KIWANIS BULLETIN - September 5, 2000

Thanks be unto God, who in Christ always leads us in triumph. 2 Cor. 2:14

While Christ will leads us unto triumph and President Tony will lead us through this meeting. That is after Edgar Willig leads us in prayer of thanksgiving for the food we received for a new catering service. This is just the first week, but things are looking up. Stop by and give it a try!

Tina McGary reported her sister was not doing well and asked for your prayers. Edgar reported his son Father Jim Willig is doing better. Next week Father Jim will start Chemotherapy which is a mixture of chemicals and prayers.

The "annual kiss the president goodbye" Board of Directors meeting will be at Don Blum's home. Last week Bulletin said the directions to Blum' home are "forth" coming, well make that "fifth" coming because I have no idea how to get there. All members are invited to attend (if you can find it).

Bill Bigner is still collecting clothing and blankets, especially blankets, for the St. Michael Center. Just bring it to the next meeting and Bill will do the delivering.

The Delhi Riverview Kiwanis are selling the Entertainment Books again this year. Their members help support our functions and we can help them by purchasing these money saving books. See Bill Bigner for this one also!

Jane Reuter announced the Membership Committee will meet for lunch at noon on Thursday, September 14, 2000 at Ron's Roost. All members are invited to attend and make suggestions for improving our membership. Please contact Jane (she has voice mail) if you are attending so tables can be reserved.

Our new Neighborhood Officer, Mikle D. Brown, gave us an update on crime statistics for the District 3 area. In August there were 217 reported crimes, 20 burglaries, 7 business B&Es and (lock your car) 16 auto thefts. Officer Brown is a very impressive. He is a good speaker, very professional, very friendly, a Marine for 13 years, a policeman for 8 years and hopes to be promoted soon. He has my vote! Officer Brown said the police need your help in preventing crime. If you see something suspicious call 765-1212 (a non emergency number) to report it.

HA Musser and Tom Riggs celebrated birthdays this week and we sang the usual birthday song without Tom White, but with Edgar Willig.

On June 27th David Wecker of the Cincinnati Post wrote an article about how Margaret Fritz was determined to get a desperately needed new reliable van for the St. Michael Center. The van is use for everything from picking up furniture to hauling groceries. Margaret's need was presented to the Price Hill Western Hills Kiwanis by Dan Kipp. The Club agreed to help. Today David Wecker saw his story about St. Michael Center bear fruit. We presented Margaret with a check for $5000.00. Both Margaret and David spoke about the Center and thanked the Club for their generosity.

As the old clich, goes "saving the best for last". This was Clifford Franklin day! Cliff joined the Club in 1961, when he became principal of Covedale School, almost forty years ago . Cliff has been an active, dependable, and humble member. Today we honored him for the generosity of his time and his accomplishments for Kiwanis. Cliff was presented the prestigious, well deserved, Hixon Award. His health has reduced his activities this past year, but his short speeches and tantalizing jokes will return. A special thanks to Gene Simpkins for driving Cliff to our meetings.
