PRICE HILL / WESTERN HILLS KIWANIS BULLETIN - September 19, 2000

I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ; for it is the power of God. Rom 1:16

Pres. Tony (only a couple a weeks to go) Proffitt called the meeting to order. After the opening song and pledge to the flag our traveling member Earl Oakes gave a grand invocation.

Bob Plagge was introduced as a guest. However Gary Becker said Bob was really there because of a bet. Bill Bigner bet Gary $100 that he could not get Bob P. to the meeting. Well Bill, it looks like Gary and Bob are splitting that $100. Gary let it be known that for $100 he'll get anybody you want to come to a meeting. Maybe the point is lets work on our members and get them out to a meeting.

As a side note, if you're staying away because of the food, it's changed and all for the better. Come on and get yourself to the meeting on Tuesday.

Our President Elect, Frank St. Charles asks that you let him know if there is anything special you would like to do for the Past Presidents' luncheon? You know, what to eat, where to hold etc. etc., and call and let him know your thoughts now so we can set it up.

Tom Reuter reported that with this last exam his cancer is in remission. He will need to return to the clinic in November (Election Day) for check up so keep prayers coming so that all stays well for Tom and Jane. Ed Willig reports that his son is wiped out by the chemo. Cancer has increased slightly in lungs but all else remains good. He continues with Chemo so keep the prayers going Fr. Willig's way.

We have entertainment books for sale for benefit of Riverview/Delhi Kiwanis they are available at the meeting or from Bill Bigner. Let's keep up the good work and know the purchase does a lot of good.

Dan Kipp extolled the quality of the steak he had at the Board meeting last Wednesday at Don Bloom's. Tim was the cook and it seems everyone enjoyed the fare to no end. Tim apparently was aided by the relaxation that comes with a couple o' beers under da belt befoe he flipped da steaks, doncha know!! THANKS DON FROM ALL OF US IN PH/WH KIWANIS FOR SUCH A GREAT EVENING AND LOOK AT YOUR HOME!

Greg Hartlaub reminded us that we are still collecting bags on behalf of Harry Maly. Greg said they would prefer paper more than plastic. So when you go to the store say paper when they ask. Then brink to the meeting on Tuesdays and Greg will collect and deliver. Well just then Dan Kipp spoke up and said a good source of bags would be from Biggs. Particularly as you have to bag you own it would be a simple matter to acquire some extra bags for us. Tony was quick to point out that that would be stealing! Dan quickly retorted, "I prefer to think of it as purloining". Well it looks as though we were all in the bag by then.

Joyce Schroeder and Dan Kipp Co-Chair the Interclub committee. Joyce and Dan are setting up one interclub per month and would like attendance from members. Joyce asked that if everyone we attend one interclub per year we would have a good turnout for all of those meeting. And remember it counts as an extra meeting for those going for the attendance award.

Glad Hands to Paul Hogue, Charlene Bosken, Bob Plagge, and Dan Kipp.

Split the pot went to Earl Oaks for the second week in a row. He now has enough to buy gas and leave Kentucky.

Ed Willig introduced the birthday folks, Guy Langenbrunner and Ron Forte', then led us in song By the light of the Silvery Moon, OOPs but the page number was for shine on Harvest Moon. A bit of puzzlement was seen on the faces as we sang the right word and read the wrong ones. Oh Well all went well when we got to SMILE. And as always Tommy's playing is the Piece d'Resistence.

Paul Hogue introduced our speaker Joe Brink spoke on Right TO LIFE. An interesting program. Paul also asked that we publish the recipe for Rita's Pasta. Well here it is:

RITA'S PASTA WITH TOMATO BASIL SAUCE

If you don't have fresh basil substitute dry basil.
1 pound bow tie or other pasta, cooked and kept hot
5-6 cups of fresh tomatoes, chopped
1/2 cup fresh basil, julienned or 1 to 1-1/2 teaspoons dry
2 teaspoons fresh oregano, minced or 1/2 to 3/4 teaspoons dry
1 bunch green onions, sliced
2-3 teaspoons fresh garlic, pressed
2-3 cups Italian blend cheese or mozzarella, shredded
1/4 cup or more extra virgin olive oil
salt and pepper to taste
Grated parmesan cheese for garnish

Combine tomatoes, basil, onions, garlic and cheese. Pour olive oil over. Blend. Add salt and pepper. Toss with hot pasta. Garnish with parmesan. Serves 4 to 5.

That done I'll see you Tuesday Bye.
