"By this we know love, that He
laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives
for the brethren." I John 3:16
Greetings, Let me introduce myself. I am
a new Bulletin Writer. I hope you enjoy my style. Feel free to
tell me if you do not. I tell the news as I SEE it. (Do you get
the joke?) I look forward the opportunities that I will get to
share what is going on in our Price Hill/Western Hills Kiwanis
Club. Now let's go see what has been cooking at our meeting on
Feb. 27th.
Our meeting was opened by a beautiful prayer
by Jane Reuter.
President Frank St. Charles commended us
on a nice crowd however we need "Bigger and Better Crowds".
There were no guests (come on guys we need
to build up our memberships so we can do more things for the
community!)
Sick List: Father Jim, He had another operation
and is stying with Edgar. (There was one other but I was not
able to write it down fast enough, I apologize. You can chalk
it up to me "inexperience" as a Bulletin Writer - it
won't happen again, I promise, please don't fire me.)
There was an announcement concerning this
evening's Mardi Gras for Michelle Nymberg. Checks may be sent
in her name to 5/3 Bank to help cover her medical expenses for
her surgery at John's Hopkins.
Birthdays: Dan Kipp (27th), Bob Rinear
(28th), Sandy Flick (March 3rd), and Estelle Ruehl (4th) . Happy
Birthday Dear Kiwanians. (Or as we said in my last Kiwanis Club,
Happy Birthday Old Buzzards - now that is for the men only of
course.)
Tom White's phone number is wrong in the
book. The correct number is 541-8844. (To make sure it is correct
please call today and tell him hello.)
Are you interested in an Interclub Experience?
UC Basketball coach Bob Huggins will be the guest speaker Wednesday,
April 25th for the Riverfront Kiwanis Club in Newport, KY. The
location is The Syndicate (please leave your firearms at home!).
It will begin at 12:30pm.
Jane Reuter announced that there will be
a Membership Committee meeting on March 8th at 12:00pm. The meeting
will be at Ron's Roost. Please let her know if you cannot make.
It is important that all members of the committee be present.
Jane stated the truth when she said "Watch this club grow
and not decrease".
Bob Rinear and Sandy Flick made us aware
that the Rose Boom Bloom will not be at the Woodlands. It will
be at The Farm. The original decision to have it at the Woodlands
has been reversed due to various reasons. If you have any tickets
in your possesion please bring them back in exchange for new
tickets. If you have sold tickets please call those whom you
have sold tickets to and make them aware of the location change.
Tom Reuter has asked to step down as the
Chairman for Toy Wrap. Kevin Kahny and H.A.Musser have agreed
to take upon this responsibility. Thank you to both of them.
(A special Thank you to Tom for his dedicated service in this
area to the Club. We at The Salvation Army are thankful for your
leadership in receiving items at Christmastime they were a big
help. Thank you.)
Tom White has made his last announcement
concerning the upcoming Sounds of Hope Concert. It will be Sunday
March 4th at 7pm. Please join this event which will benefit various
ministries in the Over-the-Rhine area.
The Lenten Breakfast dates are March 14,
21, 28, and April 4th. We will sponsor the meeting on April 4th
and (hopefully) be inspired with some words by Scott See. The
breakfast is not at Twin Towers. Instead it is at the North Presbyterian
Church located at 4222 Hamilton Ave. (Just North of Chase Ave.)
The cost is $5.00.
This weeks guest was Patty Eber the Executive
Director of Hamilton County Family and Children First Council.
This began about 8 years ago and is the most successful venture
in the state of Ohio. Governor Voinovich stated it was one of
the best programs begun under his leadership as Governor. They
coordinate services for families. Their focus is not only prevention
but also assisting families that are in need of social services.
Their most publicized program is the Children First Plan. The
goal of this pilot was to reduce: (1) abuse (2) drop-outs (3)
truancy and (4) teen- parents. This program worked best in the
elementary school and not as well in the High School. It was
a presentation full of much information so we could learn about
this topic. Dan Kipp remarked, "once you get over your shyness
you'll be a great public speaker." Aren't we glad Dan is
back from Florida. We have missed him. Speaking of Florida, John
Nordmeyer is undergoing some tests at the hospital but he is
fine. (I know all of you want to know how I know this but as
any premiere journalist would tell you, "I cannot reveal
my sources. - but if you made a donation to The Salvation Army
then maybe . . . just kidding.)
Next weeks speaker will be Dusty Rhodes.
(The guy who has been to practically every Gas station in Cincinnati!
At least I have seen his sticker on all the gas pumps.) Please
come on out for a good meeting.
So long farewell. Alvidense goodbye. Parting
is such sweet sorrow. Oh I just can't stop writing. Help! I hope
you have enjoyed the news of the hour. Look forward to seeing
you at our club. In case you are wondering why I am not there
for the next two weeks it is not because I am avoiding criticism
of my bulletin (which by the way is fun to write) but it is because
I will be on a long needed vacation. I'll miss you guys. See
you in a couple of weeks (unless you SEE me first.)
Your favorite journalist,
Scott R. See, Esquire, Knight, Dr. (Actually
it is just Lieutenant. - until May 1, when I become a Captain,
so long.)
