We had a happy jolly group at this week's
meeting. Members were in rare form. But the big question of the
day is, "Where is Dan Kipp?" Has anyone seen him? I
wonder if the anonymous poison postcards will bring him back
to the meetings.
We said hello to a few old members we haven't
seen for a while. Hi Gene, Cliff, Paubo, to name a few. Now if
only we could get Steve Newsome, Don Blum, and whatever happened
to Gary Rothenbusch, to attend the meeting we would be in business.
Bill Stautberg paid a visit to the club to purchase some RBB
tickets. He is a much slimmer version, due to over-medication,
Bill had some health problems.
Tom Reuter had another clean bill of health
from the Cleveland Clinic. Fr. Jim Willig is fighting his battle
with cancer and has celebrated his 50th birthday. He continues
to inspire others who surround him and those who tune into his
radio spot on the Catholic radio channel - 740 AM radio.
An old friend, Steve Schinkal, was with
us this Tuesday. He brought a business friend, Shelly Quick,
with him to experience the Kiwanis program. Steve's mother had
hip surgery and wishes us to think of her in our talks with Jesus.
Speaking of talking to Jesus, Tom White
is a master at this media. His Lenten talk was about "Love
is the Message". Thanks Tom we all needed this inspiration.
Denise Berkhoffer from the Salvation Army
announced that our club was to be honored with an award of the
highest honors the Salvation Army gives, and I think it's called
"Others". It's for the help we have given them during
the Christmas Kettle program. Our club thanks the two men who
have given their time and energy to this project, the ever allusive
Dan Kipp and that wild and crazy guy, John Nordmeyer.
The update on the progress of our one and
only fund-raiser is as follows: Paul Hogue announced that 11
corporate sponsors have been signed up. The absolute deadline
for bringing in new sponsors is April 28th. We are reminded that
as Kiwanis members we are expected to buy or sell at least one
RBB ticket. Many are doing more than their share. Bill Bigner
has sold a lot of tickets and was awarded a rose by "The
Rose by Another Name", Sandy Flick.
Tom Bruening is distributing golf tickets,
Gene Simpkins is organizing the Hen & Egg Scramble. Gene
says he has some bigger and better plans for that particular
portion of the RBB. Gary needs Silent Auction donations.
Loose is making a gigantic Kiwanis sign
for our club. His efforts look very rewarding. He has great carpentry
skills sort of like St. Joseph. Thanks Lou.
Greg Hartlaub says to keep bringing in
bags for Holy Family Pantry, paper is preferred.
Next Wednesday, April 11th is the board
meeting at West Park.
April 17th is the election celebration
at San Antonio's Church basement. Bring wives, husbands, whoever
is free that night for a good social event. The time is 6:00.
Just a few Ha Ha's for the day. Seen on
a T-shirt: Happiness is seeing your Mother-In-Law on a milk carton.
On the door of a plastic surgeon's office:
"Hello, can we pick your nose?"
Enough already ......
