Our illustrious leader Frank St. Charles relinquished the gavel to equally illustrious Paul Hogue as Frank had Dilation Itas (he was at the eye Dr.). So Paul called the meeting to order, Tom played (wonderfully) we sang, and Wally Flender gave the invocation.
Paul polled the office for guests and there were none this week so right into those who asked for time to speak.
Tom Reuter said Drs. Found no cancer cells in the swollen gland. Very good news for Tom he is cautiously optimistic. However the regular Cleveland visit will be next Tuesday for his check-up.
Paul now called on the chair folks to report on the Rose Bloom Boom as to results of special auctions etc. Tom Bruening said golf raffle successful with $1335 in tickets sold at a cost of $220 a net gain of $1115. Jim Schwartz said Mystery Jewelry tickets went well with much interest and Jim has volunteered to do again next year. Sales were $1970 Cost $350 Gain $1620. There some extra that will go a long way. Gene Simpkins said the egg barrel did well and the winners of the Ham and Mint Collectibles were pleased. Gene's barrel added several hundred dollars to the Rose Pot. Gary Becker reports that so many of the Kiwanians contributed time and items for the silent auction that it made it great. A little over $6000 was added to the funds for next year. Great job Gary we love to get those kinds of results. Now the top prize was won our own Dick Mather. Boy did he have close friends today. Congratulations Dick spend it in good health.
Now JoAnn Kahle reports that Judy Jennison sold 12 helmets at the Bike Helmet program. Next Tuesday Judy will have the remaining helmets at the meeting. If you want one for yourself the kids or grand kids, now's the time to get one.
Bill Bigner then spoke to a program of stickers that we commissioned a number of years ago that read support your local police (Cincinnati). He felt that perhaps this was a good time to provide those stickers again, for distribution by the police and friends. Bill asked the Board and the project wa approved under Bill's direction. For stickers, information and the like please call Bill he will explain.
Dan Kipp and John Nordmeyer then strolled slowly to the podium. Dan, was so slow because he was being dramatic and John, because he couldn't get around Dan. Well anywho Dan and John spoke to the OTHERS award from the Salvation Army. A very prestigious Award, that we won for our 60% contribution of total funds raised in the Kettle program. Thanks to the nomination by Denise Berkholter of the S. Army and her support PHWH Kiwanis won a place in Cincinnati History. This award has been given to the likes of Procter and Gamble, Jim Scott, Western Southern, Kroger all very prestigious and influential entities in Cincinnati, a high honor and one to be proud of. Kudos to all of us who participated, and to all who will participate in the coming years Kettle program.
Well no glad hands this week but the split the pot went to Joyce (I've won more than anyone) Schroeder. Howard Zoellner reported that the Kiwanis Golf outing was called on account of rain this past weekend, however, it will now be held on July 23rd. So if you want to play, resign up call Howard and let him know.
