Frank ST.Charles called the meeting to order with Tom White delivering a resonant rendition of God Bless America and we the Pledge of Allegiance.
Fred Morr then gave the invocation and the meeting was underway.
Today we had no guests but one who was, Mr. Jimmy Hoffman, is now a full fledged member. Welcome aboard Jimmy.
Sick list found us with, thankfully, few. You may recall I related the story of Bud Grampke taken to Cleveland near death. Well after being dead on the table today sees him up, walking and waiting for a new heart. On the home front Sandy Flick underwent foot surgery and is doing well. When it was asked what was wrong, it was commented from the floor that a very delicate operation was needed to remove Sandy's foot from Ed's behind!
John Nordmeyer announced that there is a golf outing Thursday August 23rd to raise money for the Republican Party. Many of our State Local and Regional politicians will be there. Bill Seitz said a good time can be had for the $150 fee that covers Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and an open bar for the entire day. See or call John Nordmeyer he has the info.
Frank announced that the Plates are being counted to help determine the number of persons eating lunch and the amount due to the Caterer for the lunches. Please take only one plate so that we can keep better track of what we owe.
That brings me to the announcement Frank made. Frank has announced that the board had decided to raise dues so as to provide for adequate administration funds for the club for the coming year. This has become necessary as to cover our lunch costs we have had to make up the difference due to low attendance at the Tuesday meetings. The problem is that we are running about $3000 a year short of covering food and facility rental. To cover this deficit we must either increase the meeting attendance each and every week thru personal contact, increased club membership that attend the weekly meeting or additional funds from the members. The Board deliberated long on this dilemma and after a number of suggestions were put forth the following. With approximately 60 members it will take about $50 per member per year to cover the above mentioned deficit. The Board wanted to cover the deficit but at the same time not penalize those who come to the meetings. It was therefore moved to raise dues $50 for all the members, but, for those who come to the Tuesday meeting the lunch cost would be lowered $1.00 ($52.00 annually) thereby giving back to those who come each week. So this is what we're going to discuss and then vote on during Sept. 4th's lunch meeting. This will be announced 2 more times before the 4th so if you want to say something, propose something then take the time to be at the meeting on Sept. 4th. If you do mot like the proposal as it is be prepared to make a counter proposal and make it a good one!
Glad Hands went to Steve Newsome and Earl Ostertag with the rose going to JoAnn Kahle. Split the pot went to Dan Kipp who commented that this was the first time he won since his win at the end of WWI. Dan is the Man! Go DAN! GO Dan! GO!! And the Caissons go rolling along! Oh Yes, Happy Birthday to Jerry Roth and Scott Becker this week.
Greg Hartlaub, Carol Sohmer and yours truly presented a short reading about God, St. Francis and a Garden. Thanks for the response folks it was fun. Again you were treated to the mellow tones of Walt's voice as we sang "Singin in the Rain". Hey did you all picture the Gene Kelly rendition as you were singing? Great wasn't it. And the we closed with Smile.
Steve Newsome was our program today. He went over the structure and uses of the Club and the Foundation. The presentation was very informative and timely Steve. Thanks.
Well time to go! See you next Tuesday! Be there!!
Walt Luthy
